Denise can safely access her home now!

Whoop, whoop! Last month, Skagit Habitat for Humanity completed its second Critical Home Repair Project and installed new porch steps for Sedro-Woolley resident, Denise.

A few weeks ago, Denise reached out to Skagit Habitat for Humanity expressing concerns about her old, rotting front porch steps. The steps posed a major safety hazard, leaving her uncomfortable entering and exiting her home. She was actively looking for a handyman, but all the options were too expensive for her fixed budget.

After seeing a Facebook post, Denise reached out to Skagit Habitat for Humanity for an affordable repair. Soon, Chris and Andy, Skagit Habitat for Humanity volunteers and experienced carpenters, were at Denise’s home, replacing her front porch steps.

Now, Denise can safely and confidently move around her home. We were so excited to tackle this project and look forward to completing another repair later in October!

We want to express our sincere thanks to Marathon Petroleum and the Jerry H Walton Foundation for supporting our program and making these repairs possible.

Critical Home Repair Program: How Does It Work?

While building homes remains the foundation of what we do, Skagit Habitat for Humanity recognizes the need for critical home repairs in Skagit County. This year, we relaunched the Critical Home Repair Program and are excited to offer affordable repairs to low-income, senior, or disabled homeowners. Our project scope includes replacing steps/handrails for safety and improving accessibility ramps.

How do we keep the repairs affordable? Skagit Habitat for Humanity provides volunteer labor at no cost and offers qualified homeowners a no-interest loan for 10% of the total cost of building materials, which may not exceed $5,000.
