Do you get along with your neighbors? We sure do! There are 131k souls in Skagit County, and they are all in this thing together. It only makes sense that local businesses and nonprofits work together for the benefit of the community at large. That’s why Skagit Habitat for Humanity has focused on partnering with local businesses that are uniquely invested in their neighbors.  Through an initiative we call Buy Local, Build Local, we are shining a light on small businesses who rely on a healthy economy and community, because when people have a home they can afford, it creates a ripple effect of positive outcomes that makes Skagit County a better place to live, work, and do business. We’re building that future right now with these fun local partnerships you’ll want to hear about.

Paint ‘N’ Sip With The Speckled Hen

In the last few months (and moving into the next several), Skagit Habitat for Humanity has joined forces with local businesses in creative, engaging, and mutually beneficial ways. In July, we partnered with paint party organizers, The Speckled Hen, and local brewery, Farmstrong Brewing Co, to hold a special “Paint & Sip” Event. Tickets were sold to the public for a chance to learn how to re-create a beautiful painting of the Skagit Valley landscape, while enjoying the charming atmosphere and delightful drinks at the Farmstrong Taphouse in Mount Vernon. A portion of ticket and drink sales went to Skagit Habitat for Humanity to help support programs that empower hard-working Skagit families to achieve affordable homeownership.

If this sounds like a good time to you, don’t worry because tickets are on sale now for another such event at Skagit Cellars in La Conner, the very same town where we’ve just announced the upcoming groundbreaking of three new affordable homes. Bring your beret and come thirsty to this event on Friday, October 4th from 6-8pm (beret optional). Head to The Speckled Hen website to support local businesses and local affordable housing with a ticket purchase: The Speckled Hen x Skagit Habitat Event Page

Ice Cream for a Good Cause

And the partnerships keep coming! Also in July, the Lopez Island Creamery Anacortes factory location kindly held a percentage day where a portion of the day’s sales were donated to Skagit Habitat for Humanity’s cause. It’s businesses that give back to our local community that we need to support and appreciate, and it’s easy to do so when that business makes delicious ice cream!

Building Through Beer and Bingo

But the fun has just begun! In October Skagit and Whatcom County Habitat affiliates are joining forces with Garden Path Fermentation to hold a Beer and Bingo night at each of the Garden Path locations in Burlington and Bellingham on consecutive weekends. Stay tuned for more on this upcoming event as details become available.
