Building Homes and Dreams
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming construction of three new affordable homes in the charming town of La Conner, WA. These La Conner homes will offer three families the opportunity to build and buy their own homes in partnership with Skagit Habitat for Humanity.
Since 1994, Skagit Habitat has helped 45 families achieve stability and financial independence through affordable homeownership. We are excited to expand this impact in the beautiful town of La Conner, building on Caledonia St, a short walk to the heart of downtown La Conner!
Three Single-Family Homes in Downtown La Conner
The three new homes will be single-family residences designed to cater to different family sizes and needs. Two homes will boast 1,380 square feet and feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-story layout. The third home offers a cozy 1,063 square feet, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
These homes are more than just four walls and a roof; they are the foundation for future memories, growth, and stability for the families selected. Cynthia, a homebuyer at Kendall Court, explains her experience in the Homebuyer Program,
“I learned how to be a better mom, I learned how to be a better human being, I’ve learned that I’ll also be volunteering even after I have my own home.”
For Cynthia, participating in the Homebuyer Program is about so much more than becoming a homeowner. It’s about building a stronger future for her family for generations to come.

Our Homebuyer Program provides families with a unique opportunity to achieve their dream of owning a safe and affordable home. We are thrilled to announce that three families earning between 60-80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) will be selected to join our program!
To be considered, families must meet specific program requirements. These include:
- Demonstrated need for affordable housing.
- Willingness to partner with Skagit Habitat.
- Ability to repay a mortgage.
- Residency in Skagit County for at least one year.
Selected families will become active partners with Skagit Habitat, participating in both the building and buying of their home. They will complete at least 150 Sweat Equity hours (volunteer hours) and attend educational classes to prepare for the responsibilities of homeownership.
This is a fantastic opportunity for hardworking low-income families to achieve the dream of homeownership that often feels out of reach.

Beyond Three Homes: Building a Stronger La Conner
These three homes are just the beginning. After completing these initial homes, we’ll focus on building three smaller cottage homes to accommodate a wider range of family sizes. The cottages will have two bedrooms and one bathroom. These homes are designed for small families and couples, ensuring that our affordable housing solutions cater to various family sizes and types. By offering homes of different sizes and styles, we aim to meet the diverse needs of families in Skagit County. This project represents our ongoing commitment to building a community where everyone has a place to call home.
